What’s the difference between cheap HDTV and expensive HDTV?

  • by

In fact, I want to say that not only are there such differences among brands, but also the price positioning of different series of the same brand is quite different. For example, Sony’s entry-level 8000 Series 55 inch price is less than 4K yuan, but the a9g series price is more than 10000 yuan. And secretly Tucao sentence: red rice 98 inch screen TV is actually very embarrassing, there are places can not make complaints about, people do not see where to put…… so the key to decide the price of TV is not just brand, mainly depends on the display technology, resolution and screen size of these three important parameters.

1、 Display technology

Display technology sounds tall, but for the average consumer, it’s a TV screen. In addition to the widely used LCD screen, more and more high-end TVs begin to use OLED and qled (quantum dot) technology. As mentioned just now, Sony a9g series uses OLED screen.

Compared with the traditional LCD screen, OLED display effect can be said to a level. The key to the quality of a TV is resolution, including contrast, black level, bright color, gamut and response time. In these aspects, OLED is superior to traditional LCD.

However, OLED has two major problems: one is the high price, especially the large-size TV. Although the entry of more and more domestic brands has appropriately lowered the price of OLED TV, on the whole, it is still several times more expensive than LCD. Secondly, OLED has very strict technical requirements and high defective rate. Therefore, if the budget is limited, do not blindly start with low-end devices in order to experience OLED. At present, Sony and LG are the brands that can bring OLED technology to the extreme without worrying about quality problems.

Another popular display technology: quantum dot, or qled, has almost the same display effect as OLED. Samsung, Hisense, including Xiaomi 5, Huawei smart screen, which was recently listed, are all in the qled camp. However, the biggest problem with qled is that it does not belong to self luminous materials like OLED. In other words, the current qled technology is not the final form. The industry speculates that it will take at least 10 years for it to mature.

From the perspective of purchase, Xiaohui suggests that ordinary families can choose traditional LCD TV. Unless the budget is enough, don’t consider qled, especially OLED TV. If you have to buy it, you should give priority to Sony, Samsung and LG as far as possible. The performance of domestic TV Hisense is also good, especially the high-end series.

2、 Resolution

In the market, 4K (3840×2016) is the standard resolution for more than 55 inch TVs, and 8K (7680×4320) is the high-end series. The higher the resolution is, the better the clarity and delicacy of the picture are. Will there be a TV with resolution over 8K in the future? In this regard, Sony believes that 8K is the limit of human visual recognition. Therefore, in a sense, 8K is the end of TV resolution development.

As for whether it’s worth starting with 8K in one step, it’s appropriate to take the current 5g mobile phone as an analogy. Although both operators and major mobile phone brands are vigorously promoting 5g, and the market is full of 5g mobile phones, the maturity of 5g network still needs time. 8K TV is the same. It’s not difficult to make terminal display devices that support 8K, but the source, shooting equipment and related protocols are the big problems. At present, 8K TV is to solve the problem of film source by the way of 4K to 8K, but compared with the image captured by the real 8K equipment, the display effect is certainly not small. Therefore, at this stage, 4K TV is still the mainstream of the market. Unless it’s really cheap, there’s really no need to shoot mosquitoes with anti-aircraft guns. After all, not many people spend as much time making movies like “twin killers” and “Billy Lynn’s midfield” as Ang Lee does

3、 Screen size

From 50 inches to 55 inches, the price difference is only two or three hundred yuan. From 55 inches to 65 inches, the price difference will reach eight or nine hundred yuan, and the price difference between 65 and 75 inches will reach more than two thousand yuan. The bigger the screen is, the higher the price will be. Although large size TV can bring better immersion, it doesn’t mean that the larger the size, the better. For example, in our ordinary family, the 55 to 65 inch size is enough. If the viewing distance is not enough, the large screen will aggravate eye fatigue, especially for children.

By the way, many brands now make the so-called eye protection TV. The principle is to block the blue light harmful to human eyes through technical means, but this kind of TV is purely a publicity stunt. First of all, the so-called Blu Ray released by TV is not as terrible as imagined. Secondly, even if the so-called harmful blue light is filtered out, it will hurt your eyes if you watch it for a long time.

4、 Other price factors

In addition to the above mentioned points, factors such as light control mode, support function, sound effect, storage capacity, including fuselage material and screen proportion, will affect the price. For example, high-end TVs prefer direct backlight; The model with large storage is relatively expensive; Full screen, especially ultra-thin full screen price will be slightly expensive.

In addition, the difference in function is also one of the influencing factors. Most of the low-end computers have no image quality processing technology. The screen refresh rate is standard 60Hz and the memory is 1-2g. You may not have a very clear concept of the memory. In short, the size of the memory determines the response speed of the TV in a certain sense. Therefore, if you hate the slow TV and the card, you should pay special attention to the memory size in addition to the CPU. In addition, the so-called HDR functions of most low-end computers are only limited to software support HDR, but the screen itself does not support it. The cost of such fake HDR is much lower than that of real HDR. There are many such machines owned by Xiaomi. Of course, this is also a choice that we have to make in order to pursue the ultimate cost performance.

Not only that, many TV in pursuit of low price, often in the function, design, materials, including services and other aspects of all-round shrinkage. More concentrated problems, such as: the use of plastic fuselage; Pseudo 4K screen (the vast majority of low-end computers in the market are pseudo 4K panel); Reduce the number of interfaces, reduce the interface version (although this does not delay the use, but it will increase a lot of trouble); Castration projection function; Or split up the TV stand and sell it alone (in the early years, Xiaomi was scolded for this, and what’s more, Xiaomi had to pay extra for installing the stand on the wall… In fact, Xiaomi is not the only one doing this in the low-end market). In addition, such as boot advertising is particularly much, running speed is particularly slow and so on is also criticized more problems.

Relatively speaking, the middle end TV will have more display functions, such as adding motion compensation. This function can effectively improve the tailing phenomenon of TV pictures, which is very important for friends who often watch games. The brightness of the middle end machine will also be higher, and the operation, storage and storage will generally be larger.

The brightness of high-end TV can reach more than 800 nits, and the peak brightness of high-end TV such as Sony is more than 1000 nits. A real HDR TV, with a direct backlight, has a more uniform screen brightness and a higher refresh rate. Of course, its storage and storage will go up to a higher level. In addition, such as motion compensation, wide color gamut, chessboard light control technology is available.

In the final analysis, there are more and more TV functions now, but in the final analysis, the image quality is the foundation of TV. Therefore, when selecting TV, don’t be confused by some peripheral functions. The factors that determine the image quality themselves are the key to TV price positioning~
