Many people know that the picture quality of HdTV equipped with Dolby’s horizon is better than that of ordinary HdTV. They do not know what Dolby’s horizon is and why it makes the picture quality clearer and the color purer.

Today, brother T will take you to know Dolby vision.

Dolby vision (Chinese Name: Dolby vision) is an image quality technology launched by Dolby Laboratories in the United States. It improves the image effect by improving the brightness and expanding the dynamic range. It can improve the fidelity of video signal, so that the image is very realistic in terms of brightness, color or contrast.

Dolby horizon is a kind of HDR (high dynamic range image technology), so before explaining Dolby horizon, brother T will talk about HDR.

At present, HDR technology has two mainstream formats, one is hdr10, the other is Dolby horizon.

The main differences between Dolby horizon and hdr10 are as follows:

First of all, the Dolby field of view can reach 4000 nits, four times higher than hdr10.

The second is the depth and brightness of the color that the content and device can achieve. Compared with the 10 bit color depth of HDR (the name of hdr10 comes from this), the content of Dolby horizon can achieve up to 12 bit color depth.

Thirdly, Dolby view adopts dynamic data, while hdr10 adopts static data. The overall picture performance of Dolby view is better than hdr10.

With hdr10, the HdTV only receives static metadata. Well, in other words, the whole movie or HdTV program has to use this set of rigid “formula”, which only has one data point or static metadata, and can’t be optimized for different scenes as the scene changes.

Dolby horizon is a version of HDR, which aims to provide more image information. This information is called metadata, which contains the brightness information of each frame of a movie or HdTV program. Therefore, HdTV and other display devices can know exactly how to display pictures in the whole movie. In addition to the core metadata, it also adds the “dynamic metadata” existing in each frame, These metadata have screen after screen instructions, which can let the HdTV that supports Dolby view understand how each specific shot or scene changes, and then render frame by frame in combination with the brightness, contrast and color of the device, so as to truly reproduce different scenes.

In short, Dolby horizon is a technology used to restore images based on HDR standard of dynamic metadata. Its purpose is to provide you with better visual effect and improve image quality, restore the lost colors and more layered images after post production and transmission, and make the images present more hues. And those who support Dolby vision (charging, non open source, dynamic) must also support hdr10 (free, open source, static), otherwise not necessarily.

In order to make you more intuitive to understand the realistic picture quality effect brought by Dolby’s vision, brother t found a contrast picture for you, which can make you iron powder, more intuitive to understand the difference between Dolby’s vision and ordinary HdTV.

Obviously, Dolby’s visual field presents a picture with clearer processing and richer content in the bright area, while the dark area captures more details, and the color and contrast are quite natural and vivid.

Here, do you have a new understanding of Dolby’s vision?
