LCD TV screen panel can be broadly divided into VA soft screen and IPS hard screen, of course, can be subdivided into PLS, ADS, IPS-pro, 4domain, 8domain and so on and so forth.
Many people may look at the photo of the LCD sub-pixel, have the wrong perception: think that the LCD is divided into red, green and blue, illuminated by the backlight to show color.
This is wrong, liquid crystal has no color, liquid crystal plays a role in blocking the backlight light, red, green and blue is actually a filter, backlight light through the liquid crystal molecules, irradiated on the filter, through the red, green and blue filter is mixed into a variety of colors. This is why the backlight on the hands can improve the color gamut.
The main difference between VA soft screen and IPS hard screen is that the movement of the liquid crystal molecules is different after the power is applied, the movement of the liquid crystal molecules in VA soft screen is like “shutters”.

The two different types of motion make.

I. Viewing angle
TV shows that the 178 degree viewing angle, is to see the shadow prevail, but you want to brightness, contrast, color without a significant decline, can not be so wide.

Narrow viewing angle makes the soft screen LCD TV viewing experience a problem of the emperor position, not sitting in the middle of the screen, the screen is far from you on that side, the brightness and color will be worse than the side near you. The closer the viewing distance, the larger the TV, the more obvious.
Now Sony Samsung’s high-end VA soft-screen TV has a wide sharp viewing angle technology, the LCD movement is still soft-screen, is in the outermost layer of the film to add a layer of scattered light. From the 2018 Z9F debut to the later Samsung Q80T (European version of Q85T), it is already the third generation. Wide angle of view at first has led to contrast explosion (still quite higher than the hard screen), sub-pixel serious blur and other disadvantages. Now the third generation of wide angle of view on the picture quality has been relatively low. But the cost is higher, or only Sony, Samsung high-end TV will use.
Second, the response time
As for the popular gaming monitor users “IPS hard screen color than VA soft screen, IPS hard screen dynamic response faster than VA soft screen” and other thinking stereotypes, and does not apply to TV products.
Dynamic response time in relation to the trailing shadow, IPS gaming monitor dynamic response time is indeed fast, but at the expense of image quality, IPS hard screen graphics display response time is actually not fast. TV is the same as the cartographic display, it is impossible to sacrifice the picture quality for response time. And high-end TV special custom VA soft screen dynamic response time is faster, so high-end hard screen TV compared to high-end soft screen TV no dragging aspect of the advantage.
In fact, 120hz refresh rate TV screen module generally has OD acceleration mechanism to speed up the response speed, but 60hz TV panel is generally not.

However, when it comes to low-end TVs, low-end 60hz refresh rate VA soft screen generally has a long response time and is prone to trailing shadows. Conversely, low-end hard-screen TVs are not prone to trailing shadows, the advantage comes out.
Third, the HDR era.
After entering the HDR era in 2016, requiring high-end TVs to brighten up and darken down, hard screen naturally defeated, before 2021 only LG is still developing high-end hard screen TVs, its 2019 SM9500 TV dynamic contrast ratio of up to 2400: 1, but after doing worse and worse. Until 2021, hard-screen TV products exploded again, domestic TVs also appeared 1600nit peak brightness IPS TVs, LG also miniled backlight technology used in hard-screen TVs. But barring that, the dynamic contrast ratio brought by local area light control does not replace the native contrast ratio.
For example, the backlight partition has been lit up parts, if the bright field screen and dark areas, we have to rely on the native contrast ratio, hard screen native contrast ratio is low, generally not as good as soft screen TV performance:.

Another example is the dark scene screen in the movie, high-end hard-screen TV either do not want details, or all the backlight partition light up, exposing the ancestral problem of hard-screen light leakage.
To sum up: low-end and low-end TV soft and hard screens have their own merits, high-end HDR TV soft screen priority.
