1) What are qled and OLED?
Introduction to OLED TV:
Organic light emitting diode (OLED) is a kind of current type organic light-emitting device. It is a phenomenon of emitting light through carrier injection and recombination. The luminous intensity is proportional to the injected current. Under the action of electric field, the hole produced by anode and the electron produced by cathode will move to the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer respectively, and migrate to the light-emitting layer. When they meet in the luminescent layer, they produce energetic excitons, which excite the luminescent molecules and finally produce visible light.
OLED TV, as an important TV product in the current market, is highly concerned. OLED TV can be seen everywhere in the high-end TV market. Sony and LG, the big traditional TV manufacturers, have always been powerful promoters of OLED TV. At present, more and more manufacturers are joining the OLED TV camp. Self luminous, high contrast, ultra-thin fuselage, excellent black field performance, ultra wide viewing angle, low delay and other product features have won the favor of many users.
Advantages and disadvantages of OLED TV:
Excellent contrast and black field performance: each sub-pixel of OLED TV independently realizes light-emitting and brightness control, the sub-pixel in dark state does not emit light, the contrast can be more than 1:10000, and it also has good black field performance. Ordinary LCD TV backlight is luminous in the dark state, there is a certain light leakage, the contrast performance of complex scenes is difficult to achieve accurate control.
Excellent response speed: the inherent advantage of OLED self luminous, can achieve 0.001ms ultra-high response speed. It takes time for LCD backlight to drive the liquid crystal deflection, and the corresponding speed will be significantly different. The intuitive experience is that LCD TV will see obvious tailing and deformation when watching the motion scene. Although this situation can be alleviated to a certain extent by means of MEMC technology, 120Hz screen and other ways, the inherent structural differences determine the huge advantage of OLED in the corresponding speed
Ultra thin and variable form: due to the structural characteristics of self luminous OLED without backlight, there are more variable possibilities in appearance. In addition to the volume, the structure can also achieve more changes. Transparent OLED, petal OLED, double-sided OLED and other products are now available.
Relatively high price: as a relatively new technology, OLED panel is mainly produced by LGD. Due to the insufficient manufacturing cost and competition, the price of the panel is relatively high, which makes the price of OLED more expensive than that of LCD TV. With the increase of production capacity, more mature technology and more active manufacturers, the cost will be greatly reduced soon.
The peak brightness is weaker than LCD TV: the real RGB OLED panel is not ideal due to the life and color deviation problems. At present, most of OLED TV adopt LGD wrgb OLED panel. The cost of LGD’s wrgb OLED panel is lower, but compared with RGB OLED, the light utilization rate is lower, and the brightness performance is more general. The peak brightness of high-end OLED TVs is about 800nit, which is quite different from that of traditional LCD TVs, which easily exceeds 1000nit.
Screen burning and panel life: OLED TV has a similar screen burning problem as plasma TV. When the self luminous pixels are fixed for a long time, these pixels that remain unchanged for a long time may have similar shadow background when displaying other images, which is commonly known as screen burning. At present, OLED TV manufacturers are also trying various methods to solve the problem, but mostly from the software algorithm tuning. In general, the life of OLED is not as good as that of traditional LCD TV, but according to manufacturers, the life of OLED TV can reach 10 years at this stage.
Introduction to qled TV:
Quantum dot light-emitting diodes are used in qled. Quantum dots can be self luminous after being powered on like OLEDs. However, due to technical reasons, the mass-produced qled TV is not a real qled TV. After all, today’s qled can not achieve self illumination, only by adding a layer of quantum dot film in the screen to achieve higher display quality. In terms of structure, the current qled TV can only be regarded as LCD TV, but it is only upgraded in performance. Businesses spare no effort to promote qled TV is mainly a marketing means.
In a simple summary, OLED is better than LCD TV in overall performance except for easy screen burning and high price. High end users and low-cost users can start directly. If cost-effective users are considered, they still need to make a trade-off between OLED and LCD TV.
